OSTN15 and OSGM15 UK Precision GridShift

UK Precision GridShift: Datum Transformation Software for UAV and LiDAR Datasets

UK Precision GridShift is a CLI and GUI geospatial processing software for reprojecting RGB Orthomosaics, Multispectral Orthomosaics, DSMs, DTMs, and LAS Point Clouds from WGS84 UTM Zone 30N to British National Grid / Ordnance Datum Newlyn using Ordnance Survey OSTN15 and OSGM15 transformation grids.

About this Software

Survey-Grade Geodetic Processing: UK Precision GridShift applies OSTN15 horizontal and OSGM15 vertical transformations to support accurate UK national grid alignment (OSGB36 / ODN).

Automated PDF Accuracy Reporting: The software not only reprojects these datasets. It includes an integrated computer vision and spatial accuracy assessment workflow that evaluates positional accuracy against independent checkpoints using American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Edition 2 (v2.0) RMSE methodology. A structured PDF accuracy report is automatically generated after processing.

Zero Coding Required: Users do not need prior Command Line Interface experience. The software includes a standalone Windows executable with guided on-screen prompts for processing workflows.

Use Case Example

Construction companies increasingly use UAV photogrammetry and LiDAR-derived datasets to create detailed 3D representations of sites. However, these datasets are not always correctly aligned with national coordinate reference systems without an appropriate geodetic transformation.

Small positional errors in digital terrain models and mapping products can affect downstream engineering workflows, including earthworks calculations, design decisions, and site measurements. Standard mathematical transformations (Helmert) can return metre-level differences in the UK.

UK Precision GridShift is designed for UAV and LiDAR-derived geospatial datasets used in construction, civil engineering, and survey workflows. It enables transformation into the British National Grid with associated vertical datum correction (ODN), supporting applications such as terrain analysis, volumetrics, GIS integration, and engineering data preparation.

Important Note

Final positional accuracy depends on the quality of the source survey data, including UAV GNSS performance, GCP/CP distribution and quality, sensor calibration, and photogrammetric processing quality. UK Precision GridShift provides the geodetic transformation and accuracy assessment workflow; the quality of the final output remains dependent on the quality of the input dataset.

⚠️ Please note: This software is designed specifically for England, Scotland, and Wales. It is not suitable for Northern Ireland, which uses a different datum and geoid model.

Information on using the Windows .exe version, including the Command Line Interface (CLI) workflow, is documented in the GitHub repository README.md.
